Working With Small Miracles Everyday
Paediatric Surgery
Paediatric Surgery is a super speciality surgical field that deals with surgical care for infants, children and adolescents.
Paediatric surgeons are specially trained to diagnose, treat, and manage surgical conditions in children, including newborns, premature infants, and teenagers.
Pediatric surgery covers a broad range of conditions, including birth defects, cancers, injuries, infections, and other conditions that require surgical intervention.
Some common paediatric surgical procedures include appendectomies, hernia repairs, and corrective surgeries for congenital deformities.
Paediatric Surgeons
A paediatric surgeon is a medical doctor who specializes in performing surgical procedures on infants, children, and adolescents. They undergo exclusive training in surgery in children. They have a minimum of 11 years of medical experience: 5 years of MBBS, 3 years of Masters of Surgery and post that they specialise in Master of Chirurgiae for 3 years (MCh - Paediatric Surgery)
Why are Paediatric Surgeons Important?
The child is not a miniature adult.
Children are much more fragile.
Their organs are small and delicate.
Paediatric Surgeons are skilled at working efficiently with diseases prevalent in children like congenital diseases and can be handled by one who is trained to work regularly with small organs and tissues.
The management and treatment of children need expertise and gentle handling.
Paediatric Surgeons are taught and qualified for the role!
Do Paediatric Surgeons
perform every surgery?
They are master of one and not the jack of all trades.
Hence, at times our paediatric surgeons need teamwork or expertise from other doctors. The disease of the eyes is treated by an ophthalmologist, the heart by a cardio-surgeon and the brain by a neurosurgeon. There can be a degree of overlap where teamwork is required.
